Koenig & Bauer - Sheetfed offset presses

Половин формат - RAPIDA 75 PRO / RAPIDA 76

The ideal press for every application – KBA is able to offer you just that with its two B2 half-format models Rapida 75 and Rapida 76.
One is characterised by its low energy consumption and a space-saving footprint, and can print up to six US letter format pages on one sheet. The other further enhances these capabilities with exceptional production speeds and a high level of automation. Together, they cover all typical applications in the commercial and packaging segments.

Productive and economical in half format
Energy savings and a compact design, high productivity and a meaningful level of automation – the Rapida 75 is a dependable half-format press for a full spectrum of B2 applications. It reduces energy consumption by up to 30 per cent compared to equivalent competitor presses, and its minimal footprint is simply unrivalled.
More sheet area and no shortage of performance
Upon request, the Rapida 75 can even be supplied with a slightly enlarged maximum sheet format. And with printing speeds up to 16,000 sheets/h, there is no denying its performance capabilities.
Another benefit is its flexibility – with regard to both configurations and the range of substrates which can be handled. Double-size impression cylinders and transfer systems are the key. The Rapida 75 is available in two to eight-colour versions, optionally with a perfecting unit, inline coating or even both. In many details, the technical solutions are identical to those of the larger-format Rapidas.
Highlights of the Rapida 75
  • Practice-oriented automation, including inline colour measurement and control
  • Pile plates in the feeder and delivery
  • Comprehensive options for inline finishing
  • Modern VariDry dryer systems, right up to LED-UV
Productive and economical
Production on the Rapida 75 permits considerable energy savings compared to other presses. From start to finish, it implements technical solutions geared to low energy consumption.
One example is the environment-friendly VariDryBluedryer system in the extended delivery. Two heater units warm the process air to the drying temperature preselected at the console. Optimised hot air nozzles then spread the air over the whole surface of the substrate. The still only partially saturated air from dryer modules 1 and 2 is recirculated for further use in module 3 and in the swan neck. In this way, the energy consumption for drying can be reduced by up to 50 per cent.
An optional energy management function measures the energy input at individual points of consumption and thus achieves even greater transparency.

Enlarged sheet format
The maximum sheet format on the Rapida 75 is slightly larger than usual for a half-format press: 53 x 75 cm as standard, and even 60.5 x 75 cm as a special format. That also adds a little extra to the available printing area. The standard print format for straight production is 51 x 73.5 cm, and this increases to 58.5 x 73.5 cm with the special format.
In practice, the enlarged format means that printers who occasionally produce in US letter or typical magazine and catalogue formats can now plan 6-up layouts. Two extra copies on every sheet compared to other presses in this format class.
Even this small detail already boosts productivity by 50 per cent. That alone is reason to choose the Rapida 75 for your B2 printing Needs.

Less space for more print
Despite the larger sheet format, the Rapida 75 occupies only a minimum of floor space. Thanks to its compact design, it boasts a much smaller footprint than many other half-format sheetfed offset presses. The advantage for you: Where space in the printshop is at a premium and there is not room for other presses, it is often still possible to install a Rapida 75. And that nevertheless with adequate reserves for pile transport to and from the feeder and delivery.
The reduced footprint naturally has a further benefit, namely the positive effect on your space costs – and thus, in the end, on the cost calculations for your printed products. In other words, print production on the Rapida 75 is extremely economical in every respect.

Full automation in half-format sheetfed offset
The KBA Rapida 76 sets new standards in B2 sheetfed offset. With this press, many of the unique KBA features and automation functions are now also available for the smaller format class. Full preset capabilities, a sidelay-free infeed and even more flexible configuration options are sure to warm the heart of every productivity-oriented B2 printer.
Even broader scope of applications
The Rapida 76 is a highly efficient press for a diversity of applications. In packaging printing, for example, it scores with up to ten printing units, numerous coating variants, raised foundations for higher piles, and an especially wide substrate range. Production speeds up to 18,000 sheets/h represent yet another benchmark.
Outstanding features of the Rapida 76
  • Sidelay-free infeed DriveTronic SIS
  • Pre-registration and plate identification
  • Full preset capabilities via the ErgoTronic console
  • Dynamic sheet brake in the delivery
Impressive productivity and economic efficiency
With printing speeds up to 18,000 sheets/h, the Rapida 76 is one of the most productive sheetfed offset presses in B2 format. And not only that. Its substrate flexibility is equally outstanding. The standard press already handles sheet thicknesses from 0.04 to 0.8 mm, and thus covers all typical applications in commercial and packaging printing. This feature also makes it ideally suitable for many special applications.
The configuration options of the Rapida 76 are similarly flexible and permit installations with up to ten printing and finishing units. Numerous coating variants, from straightforward all-over protection to special effects and spot finishes, as well as raised press foundations or energy-saving VariDryBlue dryers, further expand the production portfolio. Fast-reacting measuring and control systems ensure constantly high print quality and reduce waste to a minimum.
Printers who have in the past been unable to guarantee capacity utilisation for a medium-format press, but are nevertheless unwilling to forego the ultimate in automation comfort, will find an economical alternative in the Rapida 76.
Fastest possible makeready
Expansive waiting times are reduced significantly with the Rapida 76. The DriveTronic dedicated drive concept achieves all the necessary prerequisites. From the shaftless DriveTronic feeder, via the sidelay-free infeed DriveTronic SIS to a whole range of drive functions in the printing units, this technology extends the functionality of the whole press and promises more than just fast makeready.
With the fully automatic plate changing system FAPC, all the plates on the press can be changed in next to no time. And as the changes are performed parallel to other makeready processes, the contribution to overall makeready time is negligible. DriveTronic Plate Ident detects and identifies the plates as they are mounted on the press and adjusts the register already before the first sheet is printed. The simultaneous washing of rollers, blankets and impression cylinders permits further makeready savings.
Cutting-edge technology with no compromises
With the Rapida 76, you possess a means of production at the highest technological level. Gentle, air-cushioned sheet transport, low-curvature sheet travel and full preset capabilities – everything has been taken care of.
On top of all this, there is still the facility to disengage unused printing units, a “print clean” function to strip the remaining ink at the end of a job in order to minimise material consumption and blanket washing times, and the ErgoTronic console with its wallscreen and intuitive operator interface.
Peripheral equipment and production management systems round off the configuration options of the Rapida 76 and leave practically no wish unanswered.

The ideal sheetfed offset press for every user – with the Rapida trio in medium format, KBA is able to promise just that: A press tailored to match your individual circumstances and production requirements.
All three medium-format presses are based on the platform of the makeready world champion Rapida 106. Whichever of the three you choose, you are guaranteed the most up-to-date and economical technology for this widely popular format class.
For flexible Offset Printing
For many years already, the name KBA Rapida 105 has stood for absolute reliability and an attractive price-performance ratio in medium-format sheetfed offset. The market success of the press is founded on its high substrate flexibility, practice-oriented ease of handling and a robust design. Together, these factors contribute to excellent print quality on the most varied materials.
Efficient production thanks to technology beyond the norm
Being based on a common platform, the Rapida 105 shares numerous design solutions with its sister presses for the B1 format. That means cutting-edge technology which is lacking in many other sheetfed offset presses: Inking units which can be disengaged when not in use, user-oriented washing systems or ultramodern console features – many details make work easier for the printer.
That characterises the Rapida 105:
  • DriveTronic feeder with peerless dedicated drive technology
  • Bleed- and wear-free ink ducts
  • Energy-efficient VariDry drying systems, right up to LED-UV
  • Non-stop pile changing solutions for uninterrupted production
  • High substrate flexibility
  • Convenient handling
  • First-class print quality
All-rounder for all manner of substrate
All Rapida presses are renowned for their superior substrate flexibility. There are thus practically no limits to the scope of applications.
Whether paper, card, film or corrugated board, the Rapida 105 handles almost everything which you could wish to print in sheetfed offset thanks to its low-curvature sheet path. Accessory packages permit further optimisation of the sheet travel for specific types of substrate.
Another interesting point: The special air-cushioned sheet transport through the printing units and delivery provides for gentle handling and exact pile formation. It is thus still possible to print at full speed when working with more sensitive materials.
Convenient handling
Many components of the Rapida 105 are geared to making work easier for the printer.
The modern ErgoTronic console provides a straightforward interface for intuitive press control. All functions are clearly arranged and accessible via a touchscreen monitor. Depending on the individual configuration, the console offers a job changeover program, job-specific saving of the press parameters, maintenance reminders, and much more besides. Even peripheral systems can be controlled via the console.
Touchscreen displays with direct function access bring additional ease of handling to the feeder and delivery. Air settings, sheet arrival timing and lateral alignment are frequently needed functions. But few will be needed at all when jobs are loaded via the automatic preset functions.
First-class print quality
Dot-sharp print has always been a hallmark of Rapida sheetfed offset presses. That can be attributed not least to their robust design. The unit substructures are cast in a single piece for exceptional torsional rigidity. The single continuous drive train between all printing units ensures extremely smooth and quiet running.
To further safeguard consistent and constant print quality, the Rapida 105 can be equipped with additional measuring and control systems. The functionality of such systems ranges from register setting assistance, via colour measurement to inline colour control. Additional functions, such as ErgoTronic Lab, PSO Match, QualityPass, or Instrument Flight for colour control based on grey balance, permit the definition of individual variants for quality measurement and documentation.

High end in medium format
The KBA Rapida 106 has been the undisputed makeready world champion in medium format since 2008. But not only that. With production speeds up to 20,000 sheets/h, it is furthermore the fastest press in its format class. And sometimes also the longest. After all, there is no other press in the world which can match an installation with 19 printing and inline finishing units.
DriveTronic technology for ultrafast job changes
Thanks to a raft of unique automation solutions, such as the sidelay-free infeed, job changes and handling on the Rapida 106 are an absolute pleasure. Expensive waiting time is transformed into efficient production time.  Alongside consistent implementation of the revolutionary DriveTronic dedicated drive concept, it is quality management which here plays a decisive role. With inspection options which even include inline PDF comparisons, the Rapida 106 is yet again the technology leader in the field.
That makes the Rapida 106 so unique:
  • Sidelay-free infeed DriveTronic SIS
  • Simultaneous plate changing with DriveTronic SPC

  • AniloxLoader with DriveTronic SFC
Uncompromising productivity and economic efficiency
With printing speeds up to 20,000 sheets/h (18,000 sheets/h in perfecting mode), the Rapida 106 is the most productive sheetfed offset press for medium formats. And not only that. Its substrate flexibility is equally outstanding: From lightweight papers to heavy board, from plastic films to corrugated substrates, the performance capabilities are simply unrivalled.
No less unique are the practically infinite configuration possibilities with up to 19 printing and finishing units. Single and multiple coatings, intermediate drying, numbering, perforating, cold foil application with various levels of automation, printing units after coating – the variations are sheer endless. Also with regard to finishing technologies: Energy-saving VariDryBlue dryers, HR-UV or future-oriented LED-UV technologies are already common features, also for 4-over-4 perfecting applications.
Fast-reacting measuring and control systems ensure constantly high print quality and a bare minimum of waste. Highlights are inline quality inspection with QualiTronic Professional, inline PDF comparisons with QualiTronic PDF and colour control based on grey balance with QualiTronic Instrument Flight.
Parallel makeready processes
Expensive waiting times are reduced significantly with the Rapida 106. The comprehensive DriveTronic dedicated drive concept is a feature unique to KBA presses. From the shaftless DriveTronic feeder, via the sidelay-free infeed DriveTronic SIS to a whole range of drive functions in the printing units, this technology promises more than just fast makeready.
With DriveTronic SPC, you can change all the plates on the press simultaneously. And as the changes are performed parallel to other makeready processes, the contribution to makeready time is effectively zero. Flying JobChange is the ultimate level of automation and realises job changeovers practically without interruption. It is especially recommended where short runs prevail, for example for frequently changing language versions. DriveTronic PlateIdent detects and identifies the plates as they are mounted on the press and adjusts the register already before the first sheet is printed.
DriveTronic SFC changes the coating formes parallel to other makeready processes, while the KBA AniloxLoader provides for fully automatic anilox roller replacement by way of a magazine above the coater. This is similarly a parallel process and is integrated into the job changeover program.

Large size - RAPIDA 145 / RAPIDA 164

The large-format models KBA Rapida 145 and KBA Rapida 164 are the most modern sheetfed offset presses in this format class. Countless unique features and automation components provide for exceptionally short makeready times. And with outputs of up to 18,000 sheets/h, the large-format Rapidas are equally fast in production.
Like all Rapida presses, the large-format models can also be tailored exactly to the individual requirements of your print company

Superlative performance in large formats
KBA has been the established market and technology leader in large-format sheetfed offset printing for many years. Almost 50 years of experience in the building of large-format presses in unit design have flowed into the current Rapida 145 and Rapida 164 models. With up to 14 printing and inline finishing units, the most comprehensive large-format installations in the world carry the KBA badge. Packaging printing, in particular, has long since been the absolute domain of KBA-Sheetfed.
Top performance and perfect automation
Incorporating a whole host of trendsetting innovations, the Rapida 145 and Rapida 164 series are unique in their format classes. As typical run lengths are also decreasing in large formats, the automation and operating philosophy is geared to reducing makeready times to the levels which are already standard for modern medium-format presses. At the same time, the high production speeds of up to 18,000 sheets/h cater admirably for users with long runs. A diversity of inline measurement and control systems, right up to a full-scale inspection system for inline production monitoring, help to ensure constant and top-class print quality.

Compact, space-saving design reduces investment outlay
The large-format Rapidas are the ideal choice where high performance is required, but space is at a premium. For an equal or marginally larger print format, they occupy significantly less floor space than competitor presses. That reduces space and production costs. The Rapida 145 and Rapida 164 are also well positioned for installation in printshops with low ceiling heights.
Another important aspect is that KBA large-format presses eliminate all unnecessary weight. That reduces the necessary construction outlay. Depending on the configuration, a Rapida may weigh up to a third less than other comparable presses.
With regard to energy consumption, too, the Rapida 145 and Rapida 164 stand above the crowd with significantly lower connected loads both for the press itself and for the IR/hot air drying. This is especially true when using the VariDryBlue technology. KBA is furthermore the first manufacturer to offer LED-UV dryers in large formats. In other words, the large-format Rapidas also place cutting-edge ecological technology at your fingertips.
Perfectly automated, simultaneous makeready processes
Wherever possible, individual makeready steps are integrated into the essentially automated simultaneous job changeover process. Washing, for example, runs parallel to the plate and coating forme change. CleanTronic Synchro possesses two separate washing beams, enabling impression cylinders and blankets to be washed simultaneously. Alternatively, the washing time can be reduced by 50 per cent if both washing beams are applied to the blanket.
With DriveTronic SPC, the time required for plate changes is reduced to a minimum. Plate changes are performed simultaneously in all units, and furthermore parallel to other makeready processes; they thus have no influence whatsoever on overall makeready time. DriveTronic PlateIdent detects the plates mounted for a new job, takes care of pre-registration, and checks whether the plate is at the correct position on the press.
DriveTronic SFC enables also coating forme changes to be performed parallel to plate change and the selected washing functions. If, on a double-coating press, only one coater is required for a particular job, makeready can even be completed on the second tower while production is running.  With the AniSleeve system, anilox roller replacement could hardly be easier – the whole process can be handled by a single person, and that simultaneously with other processes.
Highly sophisticated, customer-specific configurations
Notwithstanding a considerable number of installations with commercial, book and magazine printers, large-format Rapidas are most commonly employed in packaging applications. Raised press foundations, automatic non-stop pile changing, pile logistics, inline coating and appropriate dryer installations are typical features of a packaging press. Facilities for single and multiple coatings, if necessary also before the actual printing, as well as cold foil application and perfecting, permit highly individual product refinement.
Thanks to the high level of automation, which provides a basis for economical production even with short runs, the large-format Rapidas are a no less interesting means of production for books, magazines and the full spectrum of commercial products. Similarly for standardised commercial printing with gang formes, as practised by Internet printers. This is a field in which perfector models come into their own, including configurations for 4-over-4 production.
Various special applications enable offset printing on less conventional substrates such as beer mats or metal sheets. The MetalStar presses offered by KBA MetalPrint, for example, also incorporate printing units and other press assemblies of the large-format Rapidas.

Superlarge size - RAPIDA 185 / RAPIDA 205

The benchmark in XXL superlarge format knows two names: KBA Rapida 185 and KBA Rapida 205. Both are characterised by the same high level of automation which is typical of all Rapida sheetfed offset presses. With this pedigree, they score across a broad spectrum of market segments – far beyond the realm of classic poster printing.
This format class also offers optimisation potential for the production of displays, high-volume packaging or books. Wherever size matters, the Rapida 185/205 is a fascinating production alternative.

Domain of KBA
The names KBA Rapida 185 and KBA Rapida 205 are practically synonyms for superlarge-format printing. When they were first launched a few years ago, they redefined the standards for sheetfed offset in XXL format. Even in the digital age, superlarge-format presses remain in demand, not only for poster printing, but also – and especially – for displays and king-size packaging.
New fields of business thanks to modern technology
A maximum production format of 1.51 x 2.05 metres confirms the Rapida 205 as the largest sheetfed press in the world in terms of sheet size. With a sheet area in excess of 3 m2 and a maximum printing speed of 9,000 sheets/h, it is capable of delivering a printed area of almost 28,000 m2 per hour. That is a figure which no other sheetfed offset press can match.
The most important features of the Rapida 185/205 at a glance:
DriveTronic feeder with automatic non-stop pile changing
Sheet guiding for paper and board
Full automatic plate change in 4 minutes
Coating in all required dimensions

Fewer sections in poster production
Whether City Light, Mega Light, 18/1 billboard or one of many other formats, there are significantly fewer sections to each poster when printed on a Rapida superlarge-format press. A standard City Light poster can even be produced on a single sheet.
Minimisation of the number of sections is an essential key to economic success for any poster printer. With the frequently very short runs, after all, the makeready times for each new section soon mount up. It is thus a significant advantage that many poster types can be printed without divisions on the Rapida 185/205.
The superlarge-format presses from KBA also repay their investment very quickly in the printing of billboard posters. A typical 18/1 billboard requires only a four-sheet division. There are similarly fewer sections for all poster formats based on a 3-metre height, such as 40/1 superposters. In addition to the printing, subsequent hanging of the poster is also greatly simplified.
More possibilities for POS displays
Large-format POS displays are usually printed in several parts and then need to be pieced together, often by hand, to make up the final product. With the Rapida 185, and all the more so with the Rapida 205, however, even a man-size stand-up display can be printed in one piece. That drastically reduces job complexity both for the printer and at the conversion stage.
At the same time, the enlarged print format adds a host of new creative options for display Designers.
New approaches in packaging and book production
One field in which the Rapida 185 and Rapida 205 presses are able to play out their strengths is the production of high-volume packaging. Today, even large consumer goods such as televisions or vacuum cleaners are often delivered in attractive, full-colour printed boxes. Packaging, after all, is also an advertising medium – and one with which all buyers of the product concerned come into contact.
Book production is likewise a potential field of application for the superlarge-format Rapidas. Each sheet accommodates 72 pages of the classic book formats 21 x 28 cm (landscape) or 17 x 24 cm (portrait). The inline slitting facility (ICS) returns the format to accustomed and easily handled dimensions.
